Class Experience
We will focus on the basics of photography and throughout class we will work on building confidence in taking and presenting photographs.
Weeks 1-3 will each include a project to be completed for the following Monday. This will ensure student critiques and feedback before moving on to the next week's project. In week 4 we will be turning in and gaining feedback on our final projects. If you are interested in this class, but scheduling is an issue, please consider my intro to photography flex class which is taught using videos and handouts rather than scheduled meetings.
Week 1:
In Monday's class:
*Introduction to cameras, and the equipment we will be using for this class. (In this class a smart phone will be enough to complete the assignments, but I always encourage the use of a DSLR camera when possible.) We will also talk about the fundamentals of photography, framing, lighting, aperture and more.
In Wednesday's Class:
*We will discuss and plan out projects. Each student will have an opportunity to ask questions about their project plan.
*This project will both be a great intro project but will also assess each student's experience and strong points in their photography.)
Week 2:
In Monday's class:
*We will share our projects and offer critiques.
*I will also introduce the new information for week 2. We will focus on natural light photography.
In Wednesday's class:
*We will discuss and plan our projects as well as learn more techniques for completing the project.
*We will be working on natural light, positioning, safety, and more.
*I will introduce the Rule of Thirds and when to break the rule (Let's learn the rules before we break them!), exposure, and focus.
Week 3:
In Monday's class:
*We will share our projects and offer critiques.
*I will also introduce the new information for week 3.
*We will work on taking photos of and directing a subject.
In Wednesday's class:
*We will learn some directions, some things to avoid and things to work on working on our project assignments.
*We will again plan out projects and work together to reach our photography goals.
Week 4:
In Monday's Class:
*This week will be a bit different. We will be presenting our project, assessments and kind critiques of photos. To close out the class, each student will have the mini project.
In Wednesday's Class:
*We will present our mini project and meet to ask any follow up questions any student may have.
IMPORTANT: We will have critiques, so student feedback and comments on each other's work will be encouraged! I do however reserve the right to remove a student should bullying or non-constructive criticism become an issue and does not stop after a warning. It is important that we cultivate a community where students can gain confidence in their photography while learning from their work and the work of others.
